Job Description:

This position manages mechanical, civil, electrical, estate & HVAC teams; develops SOPs for utilities and engineering system maintenance; provides assistance to operations team to resolve their queries regarding the working of production machines; leads the technical evaluation of engineering vendors/ contractors; ensures that engineering spare parts are available as per the equipment / floor need.


Plant Maintenance Management



  • Manages the mechanical, electrical, civil and HVAC teams;

  • Reviews the maintenance schedules prepared and finalizes the same;

  • Monitors the implementation of schedules in a timely manner;

  • Provides guidance to the team if there are any issue identified;

  • Develops SOPs for system maintenance activities; Communicates with external vendors/contractors regarding the maintenance of machinery as per service contracts;

  • Shares malfunctioning issues identified in the machinery with vendors/contractors if the issues are not being resolved with internal team;

  • Triggers the corrective maintenance of machinery to internal team;

  • In case of non-availability of resources internally outsource the maintenance to vendors/contractors; Interacts with vendors/contractors to discuss the issues identified in corrective maintenance and ensure the resolution of problems in a timely manner;

  • Reviews shutdown schedules and shares the plans with Operations; Identifies the resources and the spare parts required during the shutdown process;

  • Prepares the reports on the maintenance plans which includes overtime consumed and spare parts procured;

  • Manages the maintenance of roads and buildings including plumbing, carpenter, aisle marking, paint jobs and sewerage systems


Effective Vendor Relationship /Contract Management



  • Establish supplier relationship management program with strategic suppliers for continuous improvements;

  • Monitor and review procurement budget against the planner / requests;

  • Coordinate with vendors to secure highest quality raw material, goods or services at best possible prices;

  • Review vendor performance against each procure in terms of quantity, quality and time and take action where quality, quantity or timelines are not as per the agreement.

  • Review and recommend alternate sourcing channels for meeting urgencies;

  • Coordinate with stakeholders and process owners and quality department in case of escalating issues, resolve any internal and / or external issues;

  • Monitors accuracy of PO and invoice to avoid payment delays;

  • Look for opportunities to consolidate vendors and partner’s data to set purchasing standards in order to improve negotiations and reduce the total spend for products and services by applying risk minimizing techniques.

  • Contract management processes (negotiating Non-Disclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, Purchase Order Terms and Conditions, Subcontracts etc)


Utilities & Estate Maintenance Management



  • Manages the operations of air conditioning of all the plants at assigned division;

  • Manages the operations of compressed air required for air conditioning; Provides guidance if there are any glitches;

  • Monitors the operations of reverse osmosis and water turbines; Identifies any issues in their operations and ensure the resolution in a timely manner;

  • Supervises the operations of electrical supplies to the machines; Observes the voltage of gas and electricity coming in at required levels;

  • Identifies any shortage in the voltage and interacts with FESCO & SNGPL to ensure that the voltage is as per sanctioned levels;

  • Assists in the planning of new resource of machine to be added;

  • Provides support in deciding the time lines and the costs of the installation of machinery;

  • Analyzes the feasibility of installation and the possible glitches that can be faced on engineering side;

  • Supervises the implementation of the plan from the arrival of the machine to its installation in the plant;

  • Coordinate with new vendors/contractors to have engineering machines installed;

  • Oversees the changes made in the systems and ensures that they are implemented as per the agreed timelines and costs


Inventory Management (Spare parts and Store Items)



  • Determines the lower and upper stock levels of the regularly used spare parts;

  • Raises the requisition of spare parts to be procured on agreed timelines; Plans the spare parts required over a year for compressors etc.;

  • Raises the requisition of the spare parts to P&S and acquires quotations regarding the prices of spare parts;

  • Leads the technical evaluation of vendors/contractors and advices P&S for the selection of vendors/contractors;

  • Ensures that the spare parts are being stored and labeled as per IL guidelines;

  • Manages the storage of used spare parts and guarantees that they are being updated in the system in a timely manner.

  • Monitors the inspection of procured spare parts to ensure that they are as per the technical specifications of IL


Project Management



  • Manages and ensures development of relevant project plans timely;

  • Coordinates with departments concerned to gather pre requisites data for project planning;

  • Designs power infrastructure; Prepares E&I scope of project;

  • Discusses related specifications and schedules with HOD;

  • Allocates resources according to the project Plan;

  • Monitors planning activities carried out by subordinates;

  • Supervises plan execution according to the design;

  • Monitors installation & Commissioning of machines, Power Equipment, Fire alarm System etc.;

  • Shares maintenance requirements with departments concerned; Manages project timelines and delays.

  • Prepare the technical comparison sheet for the upgradation / capacity enhancement assignments


People Management & EHS Compliance



  • Understands, comprehends and translates Company Vision, Mission and Core Values and guides the subordinates to align their efforts with it;

  • Promotes and ensures promulgation of Equality and Diversity policy;

  • Support & collaborate with the HRBP in all HR/ SHR related aspects mainly hiring (RCDs, HRFs etc.); diversity, employee engagement; reward & recognition; performance management; training & development and other development processes & initiatives of the employees;

  • Maintain professional decorum in the department by upholding Uniform behaviors by being the role model;

  • Works with HRBP to identify critical positions & ensures implementation of succession plan;

  • Inculcate the spirit of accountability in the team members and develop sensitivity towards declining unnecessary favors acceptance from any stakeholder (internal or external) to avoid any influence on the business processes & decisions;

  • Enable team members to enhance performance by strictly adhering to training plans and frequent performance dialogue;

  • Set standards and controls to ensure integrity of overall department staff in all dealings;

  • Devise & prioritize department specific goals, keep a stringent follow-up and evaluate the achievement level;

  • Identifies training and development requirements of the team in their current roles and complete implementation of IDPs;

  • Ensure team is trained on and adhere to EHS SOPs to avoid injuries and accidents at work place;

  • Supervise the department's daily workflow, assign project workload, and monitor deadlines and budgets
